Why We Use Quicktime
|
To ensure the best possible playback experience of our short films and sample work, we have chosen to encode our online videos using the H.264 codec in Quicktime containers. This does require that you install Quicktime version 7.0 or later in order to view the video content on iDesignFilms.com. We realize that constantly updating software on your computer to accommodate a website's needs can be annoying, but we have found that encoding our videos using the H.264 codec inside the Quicktime architecture is the only way to ensure that our online content will be seen as we intended when creating it for offline display—at the highest quality possible. While we occasionally make our video clips available in other formats, the only way to guarantee full access to our video content is to install Quicktime 7.0 or later on your system.
We apologize to those of you who do not have any version of Quicktime installed. We have tried in the past to accommodate for other players by encoding our videos in Windows Media, Real, and Flash codecs, but in addition to the inevitable organizational nightmare cause by so many different formats of a video, we have found these formats to be, on the whole, vastly inferior to the Quicktime architecture. If, in the future, we become aware of a codec and container architecture that will allow for the quality we require in a more widespread format we will certainly adopt our site to take advantage of such a format.
